Back to the Arcade was about returning to club roots and honoring 30 years of electronic music. The Drones is different. Darker. More conceptual. The Drones is a gothic AI girl band concept. Four synthetic personas, each with their own narrative, creating a dark synthwave/industrial sound. The debut album “Night Battles in Air” releases Halloween 2026.

Why did this project emerge? Feedback from Back to the Arcade showed that listeners connected most with emotional, narrative-driven content. They wanted to understand the story behind the music, not just hear the production.

The Drones takes that insight and builds an entire concept around it. Instead of “Fabian Starr makes music,” it's “Four synthetic characters navigate a dark world through music.” Every track tells a story. Every image builds the world.

The Concept: Gothic AI Girl Band

“Night Battles in Air” follows four personas: Noir (the introspective one), Static (the fractured one), Echo (the haunted one), and Apex (the confrontational one). Together, they tell an arc: struggle, fragmentation, haunting, confrontation. A narrative across 12 tracks. Each character has aesthetic, production signature, lyrical themes, and narrative role.

The Third Project: Eternal Loop

While The Drones tackles the gothic narrative angle, Eternal Loop explores a different theme: human life journey. “Eternal Loop” is a 16-track concept album following a single person's life from childhood through old age. Each track represents a life stage: Birth, Childhood Wonder, Adolescence, Young Adulthood, Midlife, Wisdom, and Legacy.

Musically, the sound evolves across the album. Childlike wonder in early tracks. Complexity and conflict in middle. Resignation and beauty in final tracks. Lyrically, the narrative follows one person's internal experience of aging.

This project exists because listener feedback emphasized emotional impact. “Your music helped me through something difficult.” That's the starting point for Eternal Loop: music as companion through life's chapters.
